DIY Toothpaste tablets recipe - LAurenrdaniels - No refrigeration required (2024)

As much as I love both of my oil-free toothpaste recipes (this one and this one), the only slightly annoying thing about them is they require refrigeration. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone to the bathroom to brush my teeth and have forgotten to grab the toothpaste from the fridge first. I mean I guess I should be glad to get the extra steps in, but it happens more than I’d like to admit. Enter these DIY Toothpaste tablets! They can store right in your bathroom and require no refrigeration! They are great to take when traveling or camping, or when you just don’t want to take the extra trip to the fridge every night. Calcium carbonate

  • Gently cleans and whitens tooth enamel
  • Aids in remineralizing and reversing the effects of tooth decay
  • Supports healthy bones and tooth enamel

Bentonite clay

  • Rich in minerals and helps to remove toxins
  • Is a natural polisher
  • Reacts with metal, so be sure to use a non-metal utensil when handling
  • Please make certain your bentonite clay is “food-grade” or safe for internal use. The one I use is linked here

Baking soda

  • Is alkaline and anti-fungal
  • Neutralizes acids
  • Helps to remove plaque and tooth stains

Stevia drops

  • An herb from the sunflower family often used for medicinal use and to sweeten teas
  • Helps to reduce the formation of bacteria
  • I used these Stevia drops, but powdered Stevia could be used as well

Spearmint essentail oil

  • Spearmint cleanses the mouth, promotes fresh breath and aids digestion
  • This essential oil is safe for internal use. Not all essential oils are safe to ingest, please be sure your essential oils are!

Copaiba essential oil

  • Has antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine properties
  • Same therapeutic properties as Cannabis and CBD, but without the legal ramifications or psychoactive or ‘high’ effects
  • Contains 55% BCP (Beta-caryophyllene), while only 35% BCP is present in cannabis
  • This essential oil is safe for internal use. Not all essential oils are safe to ingest, please be sure your essential oils are!

Aloe vera gel

  • Kills the bacteria that causes cavities and gingivitis
  • It is also anti-inflammatory
  • Helps to give our DIY Toothpaste tablets the right consistency
  • There are many kinds of aloe vera gel out there, some are safe to ingest and others are not. Please make sure the one you use is safe for internal use. This is the one I use

Air-tight container

  • I love using glass containers for my DIY products, the one I used was a repurposed cosmetics container, but I’ve linked something similar for you just in case!
  • Making this DIY Toothpaste tablet recipe and other made-at-home products is a great way to lower your plastic usage and be more eco-friendly, since you are not only buying less products packaged in plastic, but also using more non-toxic ingredients. High five, Mother Earth!

How to make

  1. Preheat your oven to its lowest setting. Mine was 170 degrees F
  2. While the oven comes to temperature, get your mixing bowl and get ready to add:
  3. 2 tbsps of Calcium carbonate
  4. Using a non-metallic utensil, add 1 tbsp of Bentonite clay
  5. Follow it up with 1 tsp of Baking soda
  6. I added 30 drops of Stevia next, but the powder could work here too
  7. Next, add 10 drops each of Spearmint and Copaiba essential oils
  8. Add Aloe vera gel 1 tbsp at a time until a gel-like consistency is reached. I ended up using 2 tbsps in total
  9. Stir well to combine, making sure to use a non-metallic utensil
  10. Fold over the rim of a ziplock bag and spoon mixture into the bag and then close it up
  11. Snip a small hole into the corner of the ziplock bag
  12. Carefully pipe small drops onto a lined baking sheet
  13. Place in the oven and check on it every 30 minutes
  14. The finished tablets should be completely dry, and not sticky or tacky to the touch. Mine took 1 hour
  15. Once complete, remove from the oven and allow to completely cool
  16. Approximately 10 minutes later, gently add to an air-tight container. Be careful, they are quite tender!
  17. All done!

Ways to use
