  • Pineapple chunks – Frozen pineapple makes the drink thick and frosty! If you don’t have frozen pineapple on hand, use ¾ cup fresh pineapple chunks and ½ cup ice cubes.
  • Pineapple juice – Pineapple juice enhances the pineapple flavor even more and helps thin the drink. I use unsweetened pineapple juice.
  • Cream of Coconut – Cream of coconut adds creaminess and subtle coconut flavor to the drink. Note that “cream of coconut” and “coconut cream” are not the same thing! In this recipe, we’re using the sweetened cream of coconut (Coco Lopez brand affiliate link) that can be found with the mixers in most grocery stores– not the coconut cream found on the international aisle. The cream of coconut will separate in the can so give the can a good shake or add it to a large bowl and whisk until smooth before adding it to the blender.

Making non-alcoholic Pina Coladas is so easy! Measure all the ingredients, add them to a high-speed blender or Thermomix and puree until smooth – about 30 seconds on high speed.

The mixture should be creamy and smooth with no chunks left. Pour into some chilled tall glasses, garnish with a pineapple wedge and enjoy!

Expert tips for success

  • This recipe can easily be scaled up for as many drinks as you need, it makes about 16 ounces which is enough for 1-2 people depending on the glass you use.
  • Keep in mind that these drinks should be enjoyed immediately as they will melt as they sit. If the drinks become too thin, re-blend them with a handful of ice.
  • Putting your glasses in the freezer helps keep the drink cold longer.
  • Prep your garnishes before making the co*cktail to make sure the Pina Coladas don’t melt. I use pineapple wedges but you can also use little co*cktail umbrellas or maraschino cherries.
  • Use Cream of Coconut to make this drink taste like a mocktail and not like a smoothie!
  • For a fun multi-color drink, blend the drink as directed above and add half of it to a glass. Add a splash (about 2 tablespoons) of grenadine to the remaining half and blend again until combined. This will give you a “Malibu Sunrise” colored drink. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and maraschino cherry.
  • Don’t want to make this drink virgin? Add a shot of rum (white, dark, or coconut) before blending.
  • Don’t want to add alcohol but want to add some rum flavor? Add a little bit of rum extract for extra flavor

Recipe FAQs

What is a Piña Colada?

A Pina Colada is a co*cktail that is traditionally made with rum, cream of coconut, and freshly strained pineapple juice. It has been invented in Puerto Rico and is the country’s national drink. It can be made shaken with ice or blended.

Can I use coconut milk or coconut cream for Pina Coladas?

No, I don’t recommend using anything other than Cream of Coconut. Coconut milk and coconut cream won’t give you the same results, you need to use cream of coconut. It is sweeter and thicker than coconut milk and makes the drink rich and creamy. I promise it will make a big difference!

What is Cream of Coconut?

Cream of coconut comes in a can and is coconut milk that has been thickened and sweetened. It has a syrupy consistency and is used in many co*cktails. You can find it in the drinks aisle by the alcoholic beverages or you can make your own.

Garnishes for Pina Coladas

  • Fresh pineapple wedges
  • Pineapple leaves
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Little co*cktail umbrellas
  • Little skewers made with cherries and pineapple chunks

Make-ahead and storage

  • I don’t recommend making these blended drinks ahead of time because they will melt and won’t taste as good. But you can prep and measure all the ingredients and garnishes in advance to save time. Frozen glasses also help with keeping the drink cold.
  • Leftovers don’t store well because the mixture will melt or might split. But if you have leftovers store them in the fridge for 1-2 days and reblend with some ice before enjoying them!
