It is quickly coming around to that time of the year again. To be honest, I can’t believe it is Christmas time again. This will be our 4th Christmas whilst living a ketogenic lifestyle. So we have become pretty experienced now at coming up with Australian Keto Christmas recipes.

Australian Keto Christmas Recipes (1)

Australian Keto Christmas

In 2016, we had a family member pass away so our Christmas was a bit all over the place but we managed to keep it keto, even with the stress of losing a loved one.

Christmas 2017, was spent with my family. Erika made up a delicious grazing platter for everyone and the main meal was easy as we had ham, pork and turkey with salads. For dessert, Mum had whipped up some cream so we just had fruit and whipped cream for dessert.

In 2018, We had Erika’s family come and stay with us in Melbourne. So we were in charge of the menu and we had an amazing keto Christmas lunch. So again we did a grazing platter as we know how popular they are. Then for the main meal we made keto glazed ham, turkey and sugar free cranberry sauce, pork, cauliflower bake and casear salad. For dessert we served our delicious keto custard tart.

In order to help you plan your Australian keto Christmas, we decided to compile a list of our favourite recipes and keto friendly options to make Christmas a breeze for any Australian living a keto lifestyle.

The key to success at Christmas is going in prepared. While it sounds great to say you will just eat the meat and salad on offer, the reality can be much harder once you are there. So we like to go in Christmas day being fully prepared to eat and enjoy ourselves. To do this, we take lots of snacks and often offer to make a keto dessert.

Snacks and Grazing options

Whenever we go to family get togethers for Christmas the food starts from the moment you walk in the door. While most of this food is not keto friendly, like chips, lollies and chocolate, it can be really hard to avoid. So, we like to take some of our favourite snacks to make sure we aren’t tempted by the high carb options that are likely to be everywhere.

Most meats and proteins that are going to be served at Christmas lunches are going to be pretty low carb, depending on how they are cooked. Sides

Sometimes the sides at Christmas lunch can be very carb heavy. I know at my family Christmas the sides are going to be potato salad, pasta salad, Chinese salad (The dressing is full of sugar) and a garden salad. This really only leaves us the garden salad as our side. We would recommend taking a side or two to give yourself more choice. Others will definitely enjoy these sides just as much as you will. My tip, don’t be last up at the serving table as you might miss out on your sides.

    As Iris said ‘Wow’!
I can’t tell you how happy I am to have stumbled upon your YouTube channel today and subsequently your blog, new subscriber here!
I’ve been toying with Keto and Carnivore for the past 6 mths and have been looking for Aussies and you two were here all the time. Thank’s so much for your time and efforts to make life easier for us Aussies.
To be honest, I was a little deflated at the lead up to Christmas as I love trifle, rocky road and tuna mornay (I know not necessarily Christmas, but just another thing that warmed my heart). I usually make the trifle and rocky road for our family gatherings (they’re what I get asked for every year). I’m no where near the stage of looking at how to adjust my recipes for Keto yet so your recipes will now bridge that gap for this year.
I am so excited to have a keto Christmas, thanks to you both for giving me the best Christmas present of 2019!
Have a joyful Christmas and a wonderful 2020, I look forward to following along with you from here!
